Meghalaya Delegation Raises FCRA Concerns With Amit Shah

New Delhi, July 6, 2026: A delegation led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on July 5 to discuss concerns over the implementation of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) and its impact on religious and charitable institutions in the state.

The delegation included representatives of the Presbyterian Church of India, the Catholic Church and the Garo Baptist Convention. They raised issues relating to the functioning of institutions that rely on foreign contributions for their educational, healthcare and social service ministries.

According to Sangma, the delegation urged the Union Government to consider measures that would ensure the smooth functioning of these institutions while safeguarding the interests of the people of Meghalaya.

"The delegation sought the Union Government's consideration in safeguarding the smooth functioning of these institutions and the interests of the people of the State, and thanked the Home Minister for a patient hearing," Sangma said after the meeting.

He reiterated that the Meghalaya government remains committed to protecting the interests of the state's people and institutions.

The meeting reflected continuing concerns among Church and community organisations in Meghalaya regarding the implementation of the FCRA and its implications for institutions engaged in education, healthcare and social welfare across the state.
