Chennai, July 6, 2026: Kevin Mario, founder of The Catholic Trumpet and a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church, Chromepet, represented India at the prestigious EWTN Summer Academy, an international formation programme for Catholic communicators held in Rome from June 22 to July 2.
Chosen from applicants across the world, Kevin joined Catholic media professionals from several countries for the academy, which combined theological formation with hands-on training in contemporary media. Hosted at the Centro Internazionale di Animazione Missionaria (CIAM), the programme sought to equip communicators to advance the Church's evangelising mission in the digital age.
The academy featured workshops on journalism, photography, video production, digital storytelling, social media strategy and the ethical use of artificial intelligence in Catholic communication. Participants also collaborated on international media projects aimed at proclaiming the Gospel through authentic, faith-filled storytelling.
Speaking after the programme, Kevin expressed gratitude to Archbishop George Antonysamy, President of Vox Ecclesiae, and Fr. Ritchie Vincent, Secretary of the Commission for Social Communications, for their encouragement and support in enabling his participation.
He also acknowledged the prayers and guidance of his parish priest, Fr. G. Backiya Regis, and the theological mentorship of Fr. Ligori Bernard, saying their support had significantly shaped his ministry in Catholic communications.
Kevin said the knowledge and experience gained during the academy would strengthen his digital evangelisation efforts through The Catholic Trumpet, with the aim of serving the Church more effectively by communicating the Gospel through modern media platforms.
