Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, January 22, 2026:
The Diocese of Khandwa formally inaugurated its Golden Jubilee Year on January 22, marking fifty years of faith, service, and missionary commitment. The historic milestone was launched with a solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by Bishop Augustine Madathikunnel of Khandwa.
The inaugural Mass brought together priests, religious, and a large gathering of the faithful from across the Diocese, reflecting a strong sense of unity and communion as the diocesan community embarked on its jubilee journey.
During the celebration, Fr. Jimmy Vayalil recalled the Diocese’s growth since its establishment in 1977, highlighting its enduring contribution to the wider Church through bishops, archbishops, priests, and religious who have served both within the region and beyond.
In his address, Bishop Madathikunnel expressed deep gratitude to former bishops, clergy, and religious who guided the Diocese over the past five decades. He acknowledged their sacrifices and steadfast commitment, which, he said, laid a firm foundation for the Diocese’s spiritual and pastoral development.
Inviting the faithful to mark the jubilee year as a time of thanksgiving, reconciliation, and renewed missionary enthusiasm, the bishop encouraged the community to journey together in faith and hope, trusting in God’s providence for the future.
The inaugural celebration set a prayerful and joyful tone for the year-long Golden Jubilee programmes planned across the Diocese, as the people of Khandwa reflect on their shared history and move forward together in hope and mission.
