SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral Reopens After Major Renovation in Jabalpur Diocese

Jabalpur, Jan 30, 2026:

The SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral in the Diocese of Jabalpur was solemnly blessed and reopened on January 30 following an extensive renovation, marking a significant milestone in the life of the local Catholic community. The ceremony was presided over by Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrão of Goa and Daman, who blessed the renewed cathedral and led the inauguration rites.

The celebration drew several senior Church leaders, underlining the importance of the occasion for the diocese. Among those present were Archbishop Dr. Sebastian Durairaj of Bhopal and Bishop Dr. Valan Arasu of Jabalpur. They were joined by Bishop Augustine Madathikunnel of Khandwa and Bishop Peter Rumal Kharadi of Jhabua, reflecting strong ecclesial communion among neighbouring dioceses.

The renovation project was carried out under the leadership of parish priest Fr. Davis George, whose guidance ensured that the cathedral’s sacred identity was carefully preserved while incorporating aesthetic and structural enhancements. The work sought to harmonise tradition with renewal, safeguarding the cathedral’s spiritual atmosphere even as it embraced modern improvements.

Parishioners played a central role in the project, extending generous financial and moral support and demonstrating deep attachment to their historic place of worship.

The highlight of the reopening was a grand solemn Eucharistic celebration, concelebrated by hundreds of priests and religious from across the diocese. Thousands of faithful gathered on the cathedral ground, describing the occasion as a profound spiritual experience marked by gratitude and joy.

With its reopening, SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral once again stands as a vibrant centre of worship and unity for the Diocese of Jabalpur — a testament to collective faith, shared vision, and the enduring commitment of the Catholic community.
