Karwar, April 14, 2026: Bringing together over 360 children—166 boys and 194 girls—from three deaneries, the Missionary Childhood Association (MCA) Convention 2026 was held on April 14 at St. Joseph Church, Lower Kasarkod. Organised by the Commission for Proclamation and Evangelisation of the diocese of Karwar, the gathering aimed to nurture missionary zeal and deepen the faith of young participants.
Bishop Duming Dias of Karwar; Fr. Maxim Dias, Regional Secretary for the Commission for Proclamation and Evangelisation; and Fr. Albert Silva were felicitated in recognition of their service and contributions. The convention featured a formal inaugural session, with Fr. Stewart Fernandes, Director of the Commission for Proclamation and Evangelisation, welcoming the gathering.
Addressing the participants, Fr. Maxim Dias reflected on how children can live out their missionary calling through simple acts of love, sharing, and prayer, encouraging them to actively participate in the mission of the Church.
In his message, Bishop Duming Dias highlighted the importance of prayer, sacrifice, and vocation. He urged the children to foster a personal relationship with Jesus, embrace small sacrifices with love, and remain open to God’s call in their lives. He also encouraged them to share Christ with others and live the spirit of “children helping children,” while expressing appreciation to the organisers for their efforts.
Interactive animation sessions led by the ICYM Bhatkal Deanery youth added a dynamic and engaging dimension to the gathering.
Fr. Silvan Rodrigues spoke on vocation promotion, inspiring the children to listen attentively to God’s call and respond generously. Fr. Maxim Dias further explained the Missionary Childhood Association through a presentation, helping participants understand their role as young missionaries.
A motivational session by Fr. Albert Silva conveyed a life lesson through the example of a glass and water, encouraging the children to cultivate a positive attitude and deepen their faith.
Fr. Benjamin D’Souza and Fr. Lorence D’Silva, deans, were present, along with several priests who encouraged the children and contributed to the spirit of the gathering.
Expressing gratitude, Fr. Stewart Fernandes, Director of the Commission for Proclamation and Evangelisation, acknowledged the efforts and support of all those involved in making the event a success. The convention left the participants inspired to live as young missionaries, rooted in prayer, sacrifice, and openness to vocation.
