Career Guidance Initiative Empowers Students Across Karwar Diocese

Karwar, Karnataka, April 18, 2026 — In an effort to support young students in making informed academic and career choices, the Bala Pragathi Kendra Services, in collaboration with the Diocesan Education Commission, conducted a series of career guidance programmes across the Diocese of Karwar from April 11 to 14.

The initiative reached more than 320 students from Classes 8 and 9, with sessions held at Prathibodhaya in Honnavar, KDDC in Karwar, Carmel School in Haliyal, and Ave Maria School in Sirsi. The programmes were designed to introduce students to a wide range of career possibilities while underscoring the importance of early planning and self-awareness.

Each session opened with a prayer led by priests, setting a reflective tone for the day, followed by an overview of the programme’s objectives. Resource persons, including Fr. Stany Pinto and Sr. Joswin D’Souza, engaged students in discussions on identifying personal interests and talents, selecting appropriate academic streams after secondary school, and exploring opportunities across science, commerce, arts, and vocational fields.

Speakers emphasised that career success is built not only on academic achievement but also on essential life skills such as communication, critical thinking, adaptability, and perseverance. Students were encouraged to cultivate discipline and remain focused on long-term goals while remaining open to growth and change.

Interactive segments formed a key part of the sessions, allowing students to raise questions, share aspirations, and seek clarity on various career paths. The participatory format helped foster confidence and deeper engagement among the attendees.

Organisers described the response as encouraging, noting that many students left with a clearer sense of direction regarding their future studies and professional aspirations. The Commission highlighted the importance of such initiatives in equipping young learners with both the knowledge and motivation needed to navigate an increasingly complex educational landscape.

The programme forms part of the Diocese’s ongoing commitment to holistic education, aiming to nurture not only academic excellence but also informed, value-based decision-making among its students.
