Kochi, April 19, 2026 — In a significant step toward expanding digital evangelisation, the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church has formally partnered with the makers of The Chosen, launching its Malayalam version at Mount Saint Thomas, the Church’s headquarters in Kochi, on April 15.
The launch ceremony was led by Major Archbishop Raphael Thattil, in the presence of Curia members and representatives associated with the globally acclaimed series. A special screening of selected episodes was organised for Church leadership, marking the beginning of a structured collaboration aimed at promoting the series as a tool for faith formation.
Church officials highlighted the wide-reaching spiritual influence of The Chosen, noting its resonance across denominations and cultures. Archbishop Thattil, reflecting on the screening, described the series as deeply moving and affirmed the Church’s full support for the initiative. He and other leaders pointed to its potential as an effective medium for catechesis, particularly in engaging younger audiences in a digital age.
The event also featured the unveiling of the first poster for The Chosen: Crucifixion, a theatrical project slated for release in early 2027. The Syro-Malabar Church in Kerala has extended its support for the film’s screening in cinemas, signalling a broader commitment to faith-based media outreach.
Engagement efforts continued on April 16, with representatives of the series meeting Church leaders and organisations to explore avenues for wider collaboration. Discussions were held with officials of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India and other Christian groups to strengthen partnerships and extend the series’ reach.
Season 1 of The Chosen is now available for free streaming in Malayalam through its official app and website, and can also be accessed on Netflix. The Malayalam launch marks a key milestone in making the life and message of Jesus more accessible to regional audiences across India.
