Pope Francis Admitted to Hospital for Bronchitis Treatment

Vatican City, February 14, 2025 – Pope Francis has been admitted to the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome for diagnostic tests and continued treatment for bronchitis, the Holy See Press Office announced on Friday. The Pontiff checked into the hospital after completing his morning audiences.

“This morning, after his audiences, Pope Francis will be admitted to the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic for necessary diagnostic tests and to continue hospital treatment for his ongoing bronchitis,” the Vatican statement read.

Pope Francis has been battling bronchitis for several days, as he acknowledged during public audiences. At his last two Wednesday General Audiences, he asked his aides to read his prepared remarks.

“Let me ask the priest to continue to read, because I cannot yet, with my bronchitis. I hope that next time I can,” he said while addressing the audience.

On February 6, the Holy See Press Office had confirmed his illness, stating that he would conduct his audiences from his residence at Casa Santa Marta. Despite his condition, the Pope continued fulfilling his duties indoors before doctors recommended hospitalization.
