Mangaluru, March 25, 2026: In a concerted effort to nurture faith-filled leadership among young Catholics, the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) of the Mangalore Diocese Central Council hosted a three-day residential camp titled “Ember 2026 – The Spark that Multiplies” from March 20 to 22 at St Lawrence Church, Maniyampare.
The camp brought together youth from across the diocese for an immersive experience combining spiritual formation, leadership training, and community building. The inaugural session was graced by Very Rev. Father Stany Pereira, who emphasised the need to cultivate leadership qualities rooted in faith and service, in harmony with the theme of the programme. Rev. Father Ashwin Lohith Cardoza, in his address, outlined discipline, dedication, and divinity as essential pillars of effective Christian leadership.
Blending prayer with participatory learning, the programme featured a range of activities aimed at holistic formation. A highlight of the camp was the Way of the Cross held at Yenmakaje Hill, offering participants a reflective encounter with Christ’s passion. Sessions on leadership and interpersonal relationships, along with a panel discussion on “Career and Faith,” provided practical insights into integrating Christian values in daily life.
The camp also fostered a spirit of fellowship through cultural programmes, sports, and community cooking, encouraging teamwork and creativity among participants. The final day centred on spiritual deepening, with Eucharistic Adoration, the celebration of the Holy Mass, and a session based on the Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church (Youcat).
Demonstrating a commitment to social responsibility, participants engaged in outreach activities, including cleaning the parish cemetery and repairing its boundary walls—an initiative that reflected both solidarity and stewardship.
The event concluded with a valedictory programme, where participants shared testimonies of personal growth and renewed faith. Many described Ember 2026 as a transformative experience that successfully blended leadership formation with spiritual renewal and communal bonding.
