Chandigarh, March 25, 2026 — A remarkable expression of devotion to Sacred Scripture marked this year’s Chrism Mass in the Diocese of Simla-Chandigarh, as a religious sister was honoured for painstakingly handwriting the entire Bible.
The recognition of Sister Oliver of the Congregation of Holy Family of the Faithful came during the solemn liturgy held on March 24 at Sector 19, drawing heartfelt appreciation from clergy, religious, and lay faithful gathered for one of the Church’s most significant annual celebrations.
The honour was conferred by Bishop Sahaya Thatheus Thomas of Simla-Chandigarh in the presence of Bishop Emeritus Ignatius L. Mascarenhas, adding a sense of dignity and spiritual depth to the occasion.
Sister Oliver’s extraordinary effort—transcribing the complete Bible by hand—was acknowledged as a profound testimony of faith, discipline, and reverence for the Word of God. Her work, shaped by patience and contemplation, reflects an intimate spiritual journey rooted in Scripture while offering an inspiring witness to the wider Christian community.
Highlighting the significance of this unique undertaking, Bishop Thomas described it as “a living witness to the enduring relevance of God’s Word,” encouraging the faithful to deepen their engagement with Scripture in their daily lives.
The moment resonated deeply among those present, evoking admiration and gratitude. Many viewed the handwritten Bible as a rare and grace-filled offering that underscores the transformative power of a personal encounter with the Word.
Set within the sacred context of the Chrism Mass, the recognition served as a powerful reminder that Scripture continues to inspire, challenge, and remain alive in the hearts of believers.
