Buxar Diocese Strengthens Liturgical Formation Through Seminar for Priests and Religious

Buxar, July 18, 2026: The Diocese of Buxar reaffirmed its commitment to the faithful and dignified celebration of the Church's liturgy by organising a seminar on Sacred Liturgy for priests and religious sisters at Sewadham, Bishop's House, on July 18.

Organised by the CCBI Commission for Liturgy in the Diocese of Buxar, the seminar brought together 25 priests and nine pastoral sisters for a day of theological reflection and practical formation. The programme was led by Fr. Rudolf Pinto, OCD, Executive Secretary of the CCBI Commission for Liturgy, and coordinated by Fr. Vijay Bhaskar, Regional Secretary of the Commission for Liturgy, under the guidance of Bishop James Shekhar.

In his inaugural address, Fr. Charles Isaac Sah, Vicar General of the Diocese of Buxar, underscored the importance of celebrating the sacred liturgy with reverence, sanctity and dignity. He reminded the participants that the liturgy is both the work of God and the work of the Church, calling on priests to remain faithful to the Church's liturgical norms and traditions.

During the formation sessions, Fr. Pinto presented the 12 foundational principles of Sacred Liturgy, emphasising that the liturgy is ordered towards the glorification of God and the sanctification of the faithful. He reflected on the theological, pastoral and ritual dimensions of the liturgy, highlighting the simplicity and dignity of the Roman Rite, the harmony between Sacred Scripture and Tradition, the significance of liturgical law, and the importance of ars celebrandi in fostering active and prayerful participation in worship.

The seminar also featured interactive discussions in which participants sought clarifications on various liturgical practices in the light of key Church documents. Senior priest Fr. James Amakatt contributed to the discussions by sharing his pastoral insights on the proper celebration of the sacred mysteries.

Participants described the seminar as a valuable opportunity for renewal, expressing a deeper appreciation of their responsibility to promote authentic liturgical worship in their parishes and communities.

The Diocese of Buxar acknowledged the efforts of Fr. Vijay Bhaskar in organising the programme and thanked the Sewadham community for its hospitality and support, which contributed to the successful conduct of the seminar.
