Sawantwadi, Maharashtra, August 20, 2025: Milagris High School held the second round of the Government’s campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa ke Naam’ on 31 July 2025, distributing around 800 medicinal saplings of different species to students from Standard V to Standard X. Each student was encouraged to plant the sapling in an open space near their home and to nurture it with care. The campaign carries a symbolic message — planting a tree in the name of one’s mother.
The initiative saw enthusiastic participation not only from students but also from the teaching and non-teaching staff. The Principal, Fr. Richard Saldanha, and the School Supervisor, Tr. Sandhya Mungekar, were present for the programme. Teachers from the Eco-Club played a pivotal role, from collecting the plants to dispatching them to students and staff, thereby helping the school achieve its target of 1,000 saplings across both rounds of the campaign.
The drive aimed to instil in students an understanding of the importance of trees for the environment and to inspire them to take active steps to protect Mother Earth. By associating tree planting with the nurturing role of mothers, the campaign successfully combined environmental awareness with a deeply meaningful gesture of love and respect.
