Fr. Ramesh Composes Birthday Tribute Song for Archbishop John Rodrigues

With deep reverence and heartfelt joy, Fr. Dr. Ramesh D’Souza—widely known for his spiritually rich and creative musical compositions—has composed a special tribute song in honour of Archbishop John Rodrigues, the Archbishop of Mumbai Diocese, celebrating his 58th birthday on 21 August, 2025. The composition, written in Hindi with transliterated verses, carries the title “Khushiyo ke Geet Hum Gayenge, Archbishop ka Janamdin Hum Manayenge” and serves as both a prayerful offering and a gesture of affection from the Archdiocesan community.

CATECHETICAL DIPLOMA COURSE!
THE SOUL OF THE LITURGY: MUSIC IN THE SERVICE OF THE SACRED

Archbishop John Rodrigues’ journey of service has been marked by significant milestones. On 20 April 2013, he was appointed Rector of St. Pius X College. Soon after, on 15 May 2013, Pope Francis appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of Bombay, entrusting him with the Titular See of Deultum. He was ordained Bishop at St. Michael’s Church on 29 June 2013. A decade later, on 24 May 2023, he was installed as Bishop of Poona, and most recently, on 30 November 2024, he was appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Bombay. He also served as Rector of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount in Bandra—one of Mumbai’s most renowned Marian shrines.

His years of priestly service in the Archdiocese of Bombay include several significant responsibilities. He has served as Secretary of the Priests’ Council, been a member of the Executive Committee of the Conference for Diocesan Priests, and coordinated diocesan programmes during the Year of Faith. These experiences reflect his consistent commitment to pastoral care, clerical formation, and the strengthening of faith among the people.

The newly composed birthday song by Fr. Ramesh encapsulates this spirit of service and devotion. Its opening verse conveys joy and celebration:

“Khushiyon ke geet hum gayenge,

Archbishop John ka janmadin,

Hum sab milkar manayenge.”

Another poignant line invokes divine blessings for the Archbishop’s life and ministry:

“Ishwar ka aashish barse prem se bhara ho Ghar Sara.”

Together, the lyrics radiate gratitude, light, and prayerful good wishes, echoing the sentiments of the faithful who cherish Archbishop Rodrigues’ leadership.

Fr. Ramesh, who composed both the lyrics and the music, explained that the song is not only a tribute but also a musical prayer—seeking health, strength, and divine grace for Archbishop Rodrigues as he continues his mission. The inspiration, he added, arose from a bond of brotherhood shared since seminary days. Having journeyed alongside Archbishop Rodrigues during their formative years of priestly training, Fr. Ramesh composed the piece out of deep love and honour, allowing the melody and lyrics to emerge from the heart as a sincere offering for his friend and shepherd.

More than a birthday greeting, the composition serves as a reminder of the Archbishop’s role as a shepherd who walks closely with his people. By placing his ministry in the light of prayer and music, the faithful are invited to join in the celebration with both devotion and gratitude.

As the Archdiocese gathers for this special occasion, “Khushiyo ke Geet Hum Gayenge, Archbishop ka Janamdin Hum Manayenge” stands as a symbol of unity, love, and reverence, honouring a spiritual leader whose life remains deeply rooted in service and faith.
