Raia, Goa, May 4, 2026: Arnold Seva Kendra (ASK Goa), the SVD Social Work Centre in Raia, marked Workers’ Day with a vibrant celebration for migrant workers and their families on May 3 at the SVD Seminary, bringing together communities from Raia, Maina and Arlem.
The programme, centred on the example of St Joseph the Worker, highlighted the dignity of labour and the value of daily work. The celebration began with a solemn Eucharistic service presided over by Fr Manuel Pereira, who in his homily reflected on St Joseph’s life as a humble carpenter and a model of dedication and integrity in work.
The event was attended by Fr Innocent Fernandes, along with SVD priests, brothers and seminarians, who joined the faithful in affirming the Church’s solidarity with workers, particularly migrants.
Following the Eucharist, a cultural programme featuring dances and games for children and adults created a joyful and inclusive atmosphere. Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that such gatherings provide encouragement and foster a sense of belonging amid the challenges of migrant life.
The celebration concluded with a prize distribution and tokens of appreciation for families, followed by an agape meal that strengthened bonds of community and fellowship.
Fr Michael Pereira delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of organisers and volunteers. The event underscored the importance of recognising migrant workers and promoting dignity, solidarity and unity within the wider community.
