Srikakulam, May 2, 2026: The Diocese of Srikakulam celebrated a moment of profound joy with the blessing and inauguration of a new chapel in Kotthapalli village, under Garugubilli Parish, strengthening the Church's pastoral presence among economically disadvantaged families.
The solemn inauguration was led by Bishop Rayarala Vijaya Kumar, who underscored the Diocese's continuing commitment to reaching out to marginalized communities in remote areas. The newly built chapel is expected to serve as a vibrant centre of worship, faith formation and community life for the Catholic faithful in the village.
For many families in Kotthapalli, the chapel fulfils a long-cherished dream. Until now, access to a nearby place of worship had remained a challenge, often requiring considerable travel. The new chapel will now provide a sacred space where the faithful can gather regularly for prayer, participate in the sacraments and deepen their spiritual lives.
The inauguration drew a large gathering of priests, religious, catechists and lay faithful, along with numerous well-wishers from the surrounding region. Dusi Devaraj and several other Church leaders were also present, lending further significance to the occasion.
In his homily, Bishop Vijaya Kumar highlighted the Church's mission to walk alongside the poor and vulnerable. He reiterated the Diocese's dedication not only to the spiritual growth of the faithful but also to the holistic development of communities living on the margins.
The local faithful welcomed the new chapel with heartfelt gratitude, describing it as a beacon of hope, unity and belonging. For the residents of Kotthapalli, the chapel represents far more than a building; it is a tangible sign of God's presence in their lives.
With its doors now open, the Kotthapalli chapel stands as a lasting symbol of faith, evangelization and the Diocese of Srikakulam's unwavering service to the underserved.
