Itarsi, March 28, 2026: In a concerted effort to strengthen the ministry of proclaiming the Word of God, a Lectors’ Training and Formation Programme was held at Sacred Heart Church on March 27, drawing committed parishioners eager to deepen their role in the Church’s liturgical life.
Organised under the guidance of the Commission for Proclamation and Evangelization, the programme—aptly titled “Voices of the LORD: Preparing Hearts to HEAR”—focused on both the spiritual depth and practical responsibility of proclaiming Sacred Scripture during the liturgy.
Participants were invited to rediscover the profound significance of the lector’s ministry, recognising the Word of God not merely as text to be read, but as a living and transformative presence within the worshipping community. The formation sessions emphasised the call to interior preparation alongside technical proficiency.
The programme was led by Fr. Raju Mathew and Fr. Alfred D’Souza, who served as resource persons. Through their guidance, participants reflected on the dignity and responsibility entrusted to lectors, while also receiving practical training in voice modulation, clarity of reading, and a deeper understanding of biblical texts.
Equal importance was given to prayerful preparation, highlighting its essential role in ensuring that proclamation becomes a meaningful encounter with the Word for both the reader and the congregation. The interactive nature of the sessions allowed participants to engage actively, ask questions, and refine their skills.
The organisers also acknowledged the support of Fr. William, whose coordination contributed significantly to the smooth conduct of the programme.
The day concluded with the distribution of participation certificates, encouraging those present to carry forward their ministry with renewed confidence, reverence, and commitment in their respective parish communities.
