“Be the Aroma of Christ”: Jaipur Bishop Calls Faithful to Witness Through Life and Service

Jaipur, March 27, 2026: A stirring call to embody faith through visible witness marked the Chrism Mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Annunciation, as Bp Joseph Kallarackal urged the faithful to become the “Aroma of Christ” in today’s world.

The solemn liturgy, centred on the identity and mission of Christians, brought together clergy and laity from across the Diocese of Jaipur in a profound expression of unity and shared purpose. In his homily, Bishop Kallarackal emphasised that authentic Christian life is revealed through selfless service, making Christ tangibly present in society.

A key highlight of the celebration was the blessing of the Holy Oils—the Oil of the Sick, the Oil of Catechumens, and the Sacred Chrism—which will be used in the administration of sacraments throughout the year. These sacred oils, symbolising healing, strength, and sanctification, point to the enduring presence of God’s grace in the life of the Church.

More than sixty priests concelebrated the Mass, underscoring the unity of the presbyterate. During the liturgy, they renewed their priestly promises, reaffirming their dedication to God and His people. The Bishop described this renewal as a powerful sign of communion between the shepherd and his priests, while inviting the faithful to support them through constant prayer.

Drawing from the Gospel of Luke (4:18–19), Bishop Kallarackal reminded the congregation that every Christian shares in Christ’s mission to proclaim the Good News, bring healing, and offer freedom to those in need. Encouraging perseverance, he assured the faithful that trust in God dispels all loneliness and fear.

Highlighting the importance of community life, the Bishop called on the faithful to deepen bonds of prayer and charity. “We are all co-workers in the Lord’s vineyard,” he said, urging each person to contribute generously to the building up of God’s kingdom.

Addressing the laity in particular, he encouraged them to live their vocation with commitment in everyday contexts. “Let your lives become a pleasing fragrance that brings hope, peace, and love,” he said, especially amid a world often marked by division and uncertainty.

The liturgy was guided by Vinod Kujur, Vice Rector of Maia Sadan Minor Seminary, while the arrangements were coordinated by Melwin D’Souza, Parish Priest of the Cathedral, along with Associate Parish Priest Siby Mathew, ensuring a prayerful and well-organised celebration.

The Chrism Mass thus stood as a vibrant witness to a Church rooted in faith and united in mission, as the faithful were reminded of their call to radiate Christ’s love through prayer, service, and communion.
