New Delhi, June 18, 2026: The Indian Catholic Press Association (ICPA) has announced the opening of nominations for its four annual awards that recognize excellence in journalism, literature, and media production. The awards will be presented during the National Convention of Christian Journalists scheduled to be held at Paalana Bhavana, Bengaluru, on September 19, 2026.
The awards aim to honour individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to journalism, publishing, and media while promoting Christian, human, and social values.
Among the honours is the Fr. Louis Careno Award, which recognizes an outstanding Christian journalist or institution for courageous and prophetic reporting on relevant social issues in English or any recognized Indian language other than Hindi. The award celebrates commitment to the true ideals of journalism and public service.
The Swami Devanand Chakkungal Award is presented to a Christian journalist or institution that has demonstrated similar excellence and courage in journalism through the Hindi language.
The J. Maurus Award is dedicated to authors whose books, published during the 2025 calendar year, promote human and Christian values, secularism, equality, and the rights of all citizens, particularly women. Eligible books must be original works published by established publishing houses with at least five years of publishing experience. Entries may be submitted in English, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, or Telugu.
The fourth honour, the James Alberione Award for Media Excellence, recognizes directors, producers, or scriptwriters of films, documentaries, television programmes, short films, or digital productions that uphold Christian, social, and human values. The award also acknowledges works that critically examine the impact of media on society, especially on younger generations.
ICPA has invited nominations from individuals across the country, emphasizing that self-nominations will not be accepted. Each nomination must include a recommendation letter from a reputed person in the field, the nominee’s résumé, relevant supporting materials, and passport-size photographs. Additional requirements apply for specific categories, including published articles, books, or video links.
The last date for submitting nominations is July 20, 2026. Entries may be sent via email to the addresses specified by the association.
Encouraging wider participation, ICPA has appealed to media professionals and the public to recommend deserving candidates whose work reflects excellence, integrity, and service to society.
