Dharmagiri MSJ Sisters Donate Land to 17 Homeless Families in Kerala

KOTHAMANGALAM, October 27, 2026 — In a significant act of solidarity, the Medical Sisters of St Joseph (MSJ), known as the Dharmagiri Sisters, have donated land to 17 families without homes or property, offering them an opportunity to build a secure future.

Each family received seven cents of land at Kuttiyamchal in Kuttampuzha, Ernakulam district. The property, belonging to the congregation’s Kothamangalam Province, has access to roads, water and electricity.

Shibu Thekkumpuram, MLA, handed over the land documents at a ceremony attended by Church leaders, congregation members and local representatives.

The initiative was undertaken in thanksgiving for the recognition of the congregation’s founder, Fr Joseph Panjikaran, as Venerable. It reflects the sisters’ commitment to serving vulnerable communities through practical acts of charity.

In a related gesture, the congregation also transferred 13 cents of land and an existing community hall to St Mary’s Church, Kuttampuzha. Parish priest Fr Jose Chiraparambil received the property.

For the 17 beneficiary families, the land offers more than a place to build a house. It provides the prospect of stability, dignity and a lasting foundation for their children.

The Dharmagiri Sisters’ initiative demonstrates how sharing resources can turn compassion into meaningful change, giving families long denied the security of land a tangible reason to hope.
