Blood Donation Camp at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Alipura, Udaipur, Draws Enthusiastic Participation

Udaipur, August 12, 2025: In a landmark initiative, Our Lady of Fatima Church in Alipura, Udaipur, hosted its first-ever blood donation camp on Sunday, attracting participants from across all age groups. The camp was inaugurated by Dr. Vipin Chandra Mathur, Principal of RNT Medical College, and supported by a dedicated team from the college’s Department of Transfusion Medicine.

In his address, Dr. Mathur highlighted the life-saving potential of blood donation, noting that one donor can save up to three lives. He also stressed the significance of organ donation, which can benefit up to eight patients, and urged for greater awareness and action. “Even brain-dead individuals can provide life-saving benefits to others,” he remarked, calling for more initiatives to promote organ donation.

The event witnessed a particularly strong turnout from women, as noted by Dr. Vandana Chhabra, Head of the Department of Transfusion Medicine at RNT Medical College. “I am overwhelmed by the participation of women in large numbers during the blood donation camp,” she said. The drive successfully collected over 50 units of blood, thanks to the enthusiastic response from the community.

Fr. George CM, Vicar General of the church, expressed his gratitude to the donors for their selfless contributions. Parish Priest Fr. Babu Chirayeth thanked Dr. Mathur and the medical team for their invaluable support, assuring the community of more such initiatives. He also sought Dr. Mathur’s assistance for an upcoming health check-up camp planned by the church.

Claude Dsouza, Vice-President of the Parish Council, described the initiative as a vital need for society, stating, “There can be no nobler cause than blood donation. We will be organising more such camps in the future.”

The event’s success was made possible by the efforts of Parish Council Secretary Akhil Dsouza, along with Thomas Chacko, Joseph Philipose, Thankachan KT, Dr. Rajesh Acharya, Tony Varghese, Suja Thomas, Bindu Alphonse, Priya Joe, Sijji Acharya, Jinci Sebastian, Sanish Thomas, Arpita Macwan, Mariamma Varghese, Elsamma PJ, and Annama PJ.

This blood donation camp marks a significant step in the church’s commitment to social welfare and community service, setting a strong precedent for future health-focused initiatives.
