Christ the King Inter College Denies Alleged Rakhi Ban in Firozabad, UP

Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, August 11, 2025 — A controversy has erupted in Tundla, Firozabad district, following social media claims that students at Christ the King Inter College, a missionary school, of Agra Archdiocese were stopped from tying Rakhis or had their Rakhis removed ahead of the Raksha Bandhan festival.

The allegations surfaced late on Sunday when a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office-bearer posted on social media, claiming the school administration either prohibited the tradition or instructed students to remove Rakhis they had worn. The post drew multiple supportive comments, with calls for a protest outside the school on Monday, demanding a response from the authorities.

School Principal’s Response

Principal Peter Parkhe firmly rejected the accusations. Speaking to ABP Ganga news channel, he said: “No student’s Rakhi was removed, and no instructions were given to stop the practice. In fact, Raksha Bandhan was celebrated in the primary section, and I personally took part, with children tying Rakhis on me. We have photographs of the event.”

He noted that the campus is fully covered by CCTV and offered to provide footage for verification if required. Parkhe added that he received late-night calls pressuring him over the alleged incident, but those making the claims did not identify any of the students involved.

Addressing accusations against certain nuns (Sisters) at the school, Parkhe clarified that no Sister had asked students to remove Rakhis or taken such action. He confirmed that no parent had contacted him directly with complaints and expressed readiness for a thorough review of CCTV records.

BJP Representative’s Statement

BJP District General Secretary Deepak Chaudhary maintained that several students from Classes VII and VIII had reported having their Rakhis forcibly removed by a Sister at the school. He alleged that the Sister attempted to find scissors to cut the Rakhis, and when unsuccessful, removed them by hand.

Chaudhary said the incident had angered parents and local residents, prompting BJP representatives to plan a visit to the school on Monday to review CCTV footage. He added that if the administration admitted fault and the concerned Sister acknowledged the mistake, the issue could be resolved; otherwise, further action would be taken.
