Youth-Led “Altar Guard” Initiative Invites Global Church to Pray for Priests

Raipur, April 10, 2026: At a time when the Church continues to navigate pastoral and spiritual challenges, a youth-led initiative from Raipur is drawing attention to a simple yet profound expression of faith—prayer for priests.

Launched by Power House Youth, the “21 Days Prayer Challenge” under the banner Altar Guard – Pray for Priests is calling the faithful to unite in daily intercession for clergy around the world, with a special focus on priests serving in the Archdiocese of Raipur. The initiative reflects a growing awareness among young Catholics of the need to spiritually support those entrusted with pastoral leadership.

Rooted in the prayer intentions of Pope Leo, who has consistently urged the faithful to uphold priests through prayer, the campaign situates itself within the broader mission of the universal Church. It seeks to transform personal devotion into a collective spiritual movement that transcends geographical boundaries.

The 21-day challenge follows a structured yet accessible format, with each day dedicated to a specific intention. Participants are encouraged to pray for the holiness and perseverance of priests, for their strength in moments of illness or discouragement, for the eternal repose of departed clergy, and for the emergence of new and holy vocations.

At the heart of the initiative is the enduring insight of St. John Vianney, who once said, “The priesthood is the love of the heart of Jesus.” The quote underscores the spiritual depth of the movement and its call to accompany priests through prayer.

By presenting prayer as both a responsibility and an act of solidarity, the “Altar Guard” initiative invites the faithful to see themselves as spiritual guardians—standing in quiet strength for those who serve at the altar.
