Jabalpur, April 10, 2026: A spirit of shared responsibility and honest introspection marked the Annual General Body Meeting of the Diocese of Jabalpur, as nearly 150 members came together to review pastoral initiatives and renew their commitment to mission and service.
The two-day gathering, held on April 9 and 10, brought together diocesan priests, religious superiors, commission chairpersons, and representatives of the Conference of Religious India (CRI). In his opening address, Bishop Valan Arasu set the tone for the deliberations by urging participants to recognise the diocese as a collective responsibility of clergy, religious, and the laity. He called for a shift from passive observation to active engagement, encouraging candid reflection and constructive input for the structural growth of the diocese.
The assembly proceeded with detailed presentations from various deaneries and commissions, providing a platform for transparent evaluation of ongoing pastoral and administrative initiatives. The discussions reflected a strong sense of accountability, with participants critically examining the effectiveness of programmes at the grassroots level.
A significant spiritual highlight of the meeting was the celebration of the Chrism Mass at the Cathedral, which had been postponed following the passing of Fr. Varghey. During the liturgy, Bishop Arasu exhorted priests to remain steadfast in their vocation, reminding them to place the love of Christ and the needs of the faithful above personal interests.
The gathering also paused in remembrance with a memorial Mass for Fr. Varghey, lending a reflective and prayerful dimension to the proceedings.
The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of unity among participants and a shared vision to serve the diocese with greater clarity, responsibility, and pastoral zeal, reaffirming their commitment to the Church’s mission in the region.
