Vasai-Based Catholic Priest Releases New Song to Mark One Month Since Pope Leo XIV’s Election

Vasai, India, 7 June 2025: Fr. Dr. Ramesh D’Souza, a Catholic priest from Vasai renowned for his faith-themed musical compositions, has released a new song to mark one month since the election of Pope Leo XIV. The song, titled “Rome ke Aangan Mein Nikla Safed Dhuan” (“White Smoke Rose in the Courtyard of Rome”), premiered on Fr. Ramesh’s Christ Love Music YouTube channel on June 7, 2025—just a day before the one-month anniversary of Cardinal Robert Prevost’s election as the 267th head of the Catholic Church, when he took the papal name Leo XIV. Composed, directed, and sung by Fr. Ramesh himself, the piece serves as a heartfelt tribute to the new Holy Father’s life, calling, and mission.

This latest musical composition follows Fr. Ramesh’s earlier hymn, “Give Us a Shepherd, O Lord”, written during the papal conclave on May 7 and recorded on May 8 — the same day white smoke rose over the Sistine Chapel, signalling the election of the new Pope. The timing of the recording felt providential, as the song was a heartfelt plea to the Holy Spirit to bless the Church with a shepherd after Christ’s heart.

Fr. Ramesh’s new song reflects on the historic moment of Pope Leo XIV’s election — the first pope from the Americas and the first from the Augustinian order. The lyrics of the song recall the emotion and elation that filled St. Peter’s Square on May 8, as white smoke announced to the world that a new shepherd for the Catholic Church had been chosen. It celebrates Pope Leo XIV’s pastoral journey, from his roots in Chicago to his years of missionary service among the poor in Peru. The song also highlights his leadership of the Augustinian Order and his deep spiritual experience, praying that he may continue to lead the global Catholic Church with wisdom, grace, and strength.

The lyrics of the song were co-written by Fr. Dr. Ramesh D’Souza, Vijay John, and Archana Johri. The chorus of the song was performed by Regina Pambuja, Suvarna Koti, Sujata Fulya, Shilpa Patil, and Suvarna Mathak.
