Tamil Nadu, Nov 22, 2025: Taking the lead in raising awareness about the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, the SC/ST Commission of the Tamil Nadu Bishops’ Council (TNBC) has assumed a key role in ensuring every eligible citizen is enrolled and receives a voter ID, thereby safeguarding their democratic rights.
Leadership and Call to Action
Commission Chairman, Bishop Jeevanandam of Kumbakonam, has issued a circular to all members of the SC/ST Commission, urging them to offer their services to ensure no eligible voter is left out. The effort places special emphasis on preventing delays and avoiding the deletion of names, particularly among villagers and vulnerable communities.
The circular invites all people to make use of Church structures to assist in filling SIR forms. This includes members of Basic Christian Communities and Basic Neighbourhood Communities, parish council members, members of pious associations, and youth groups. These groups—both individually and collectively—are asked to ensure that all eligible members receive their voter ID.
Diocesan Outreach
Each diocesan SC/ST Commission has been instructed to reach out to people through its structures, including people’s cells, women’s groups, the diocesan general body, non-Dalit networks, panchayat leaders and people’s representatives, and youth groups.
This campaign is inclusive, focusing on all people irrespective of caste or creed. Through the 18 diocesan networks, all 38 districts of Tamil Nadu will be covered. Field staff and zonal coordinators are actively engaged for their commitment.
Ensuring Accuracy and Inclusion
The Commission has committed itself to checking voter list details—names, age, address and other particulars—both online at the state election website and through Booth Level Officers (BLOs). It will also work on correcting errors, registering new voters, especially those who have just turned 18, and following up after submission to ensure inclusion in the official list.
A Shared Responsibility
The voter list revision (SIR) is described not merely as a duty but also as a right and responsibility. The TNBC–SC/ST Commission affirms its commitment to supporting this process and offers the service of its members for any clarification or assistance.
The Commission underscores that every voice must be counted, every vote secured, and every citizen empowered.
