Guntur, June 27, 2026: The annual conference of the Telugu Lawyers and Religious Forum (TLRF) brought together legal professionals, priests and religious members in Guntur on June 26 for discussions on justice, constitutional values, legal responsibilities and social commitment.
Held at Chiguru Don Bosco Navajeevan Bala Bhavan, the conference served as a platform for professional enrichment and dialogue on contemporary legal and pastoral issues. Sixteen participants attended the gathering, reflecting on the role of legal practitioners and faith communities in promoting justice and safeguarding human dignity.
Addressing the conference, Bishop Jaya Rao Polimera of Eluru underscored the need for collaboration between legal professionals and religious institutions in advancing equality, compassion and justice. He urged participants to work towards eliminating discrimination and protecting the dignity of every person, describing the pursuit of justice as a shared moral and social responsibility.
A technical session led by Sr. Jessy Kurian examined the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC), focusing on its legal framework and potential implications for marriage, family life and constitutional values. The presentation sparked active discussion and reflection among the participants.
In another key session, Fr. Raju Alex provided practical legal guidance for priests and religious members. Drawing on his legal expertise, he outlined the responsibilities of religious institutions, highlighted emerging legal challenges and suggested preventive measures. He also spoke on the qualities of effective advocates and clients, while stressing the importance of maintaining a healthy relationship between the judiciary and the legal profession.
The conference also reviewed the TLRF Action Plan for 2026, with discussions centred on strengthening diocesan legal cells and encouraging wider participation in the forum. An interactive session facilitated by Sr. Jessy Kurian enabled participants to share experiences, concerns and perspectives related to legal and pastoral service.
The meeting concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to serving society through the legal profession with integrity, compassion and dedication to justice and the common good.
