Tiruchirappalli, October 17, 2025 — The Tamilnadu Catholic Youth Movement (TCYM) held the offline session of its “100 Thinkers Towards Change” project on October 11 and 12 at Mariyagam, the Provincial House of the Sisters of Charity (SCCG), South East India Province. The initiative aims to shape young people into socially conscious thinkers and ideologues through consistent training and dialogue.
Thirty-six youth from across Tamil Nadu participated in the two-day session, part of an ongoing series conducted monthly by the TCYM Thinkers Team under the Youth Commission of the Tamil Nadu Bishops’ Council.
Fr Kuma Edison, Director of TCYM, outlined the objectives for the session, which included reflections on social justice and political awareness. Fr U. Jegan Bose, Professor at St Paul’s Seminary, led a session titled “Social Justice in the View of Ambedkar,” emphasising that social justice is not about compassion but about rights, and that its protection is the duty of the government. Participants also explored the activities of Poovulagin Nanbargal, a movement advocating against environmental violence, and critically reviewed Thudippu, the Youth Commission’s monthly magazine.
The Eucharistic celebration, which included a pledge for social justice, was followed by a talk from Fr Savarimuthu, an advocate, on “Saffronisation of the Judiciary.” Quoting Martin Luther King, he urged the youth to think independently and remain vigilant against injustice. The programme concluded with reflections from TCYM President Jerish and the movement’s song, “Meendum Meendum Ezhuvom” (We will rise again and again), reaffirming the participants’ commitment to building a just and equitable society.
