Karnal, October 17, 2025 — In a significant step to strengthen the fight against human trafficking, twenty-three consecrated men and women from across Northern India gathered at Sneh Sadan, IMS Provincialate in Karnal, for the Northern Regional Assembly of Amrat – Talitha Kum India, a Catholic network committed to eradicating human trafficking through awareness, prevention, rehabilitation, and advocacy.
Sr Therese Meera RGS, President of Amrat – Talitha Kum India, led the assembly, highlighting the network’s journey and the urgency of coordinated faith-based action. “Every great mission begins with a small step taken in faith,” she said, calling for deeper collaboration to restore dignity to victims and strengthen protective systems.
The assembly brought together religious leaders from dioceses and congregations across Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir. Sessions led by Sr Arpan Carvalho BS and Sr Ekta FSLG addressed the growing trafficking crisis in Northern India. Guided by Fr Ashwin Mathew IMS, Provincial Superior, and Sr Erasma BS, Provincial Superior, the participants formed a Northern Regional Team to enhance coordination among religious communities and develop response mechanisms for prevention and victim support.
Amrat – Talitha Kum India is part of the global Talitha Kum network, inspired by the biblical phrase “Talitha Kum” meaning “Little Girl, Arise.” The movement empowers religious congregations to work collaboratively with civil society and authorities to protect vulnerable communities.
The Karnal assembly marked a new phase in the movement’s expansion in Northern India. Participants pledged to initiate awareness programmes, establish vigilance networks, and work closely with law enforcement, building a united regional effort to combat human trafficking and uphold human dignity.
