Tamil Nadu Student’s Handwritten Bible Wins Diocesan Recognition

Sivagangai, 9 October, 2025 – In an age ruled by screens and speed, Jovita, a young Master’s student from Tamil Nadu, chose patience and prayer by hand-writing the entire Bible, line by line, as a testimony of faith that has touched her whole parish in Sivagangai.

In her interview with Catholic Connect, she shared, “The announcement and encouragement from my parish priest inspired me to start writing the entire Bible. I began with the Gospels and then continued with the Old Testament in sequence. Truly, it was a precious opportunity given to me by the Lord. Through this, I also had the experience of reading the entire Bible completely. I deeply realized how God’s love and guidance work in every situation of our lives. Though some people said I couldn’t do it, I started with faith saying, ‘I can,’ and by God’s grace, I completed it.”

Jovita, daughter of Jayaseelan and Benedicta Mary from Vembathur Michaelpattanam parish, began this 2,400-page endeavour in December 2024, encouraged by Fr. C. A. James. She completed it in September 2025 while studying English at Lady Doak College, Madurai.

Fr. James, who initiated this as a competition to promote Bible reading, noted, “I announced this as a competition based on the idea that writing once is equal to reading twice. My goal was to encourage more people to read the Bible and grow deeper in the Word of God.”

Her achievement has inspired parishioners to follow suit, with the parish awarding her ₹10,000 and Bishop Lourdu Anandam commending her during the Sivagangai Diocesan Pilgrimage at Oriyur
