Srikakulam, February 25, 2026 — A renewed emphasis on the dignity and pastoral vitality of Catholic worship marked the Diocese Liturgy Commission Meeting held at Mariagiri under the leadership of Bishop Rayarala Vijaya Kumar. Priests and religious gathered to deepen their understanding of the Church’s liturgical life and to reaffirm fidelity in the celebration of the sacred mysteries.
Addressing the assembly, the Bishop described the priesthood as a grace-filled vocation entrusted with the sacred responsibility of leading the faithful in authentic worship. Drawing inspiration from the teachings of the Second Vatican Council, he encouraged clergy to preserve the Church’s rich liturgical heritage so that the faithful may participate actively, consciously, and prayerfully in the celebration of the Eucharist and the sacraments.
An input session on “Sacraments and Sacramentals” was presented by Fr. Rayanna of Guntur Diocese. He reflected on their theological meaning and pastoral importance, emphasising the responsibility of parish priests to ensure reverent and well-ordered liturgical celebrations. He also noted that a sound understanding of the Holy Mass and its proper celebration serves as a powerful means of evangelisation and faith formation.
The meeting included a time of open interaction, during which participants raised pastoral and liturgical questions. Clarifications rooted in Church teaching helped bridge the gap between liturgical norms and local pastoral realities.
The gathering concluded with a renewed call for clergy to celebrate the sacraments with fidelity, depth, and pastoral sensitivity, reaffirming the liturgy as the source and summit of ecclesial life.
