Vatican City, 6th May 2025 : The Sistine Chapel, one of the most iconic and sacred spaces in the Vatican, is officially ready to host the conclave for the election of the next pope. Vatican officials have confirmed that all necessary preparations have been completed, and the chapel now stands ready to welcome the College of Cardinals for the secretive and solemn proceedings.
In a tradition dating back centuries, the Sistine Chapel becomes the epicenter of the Catholic world when the time comes to elect a new pontiff. Under the gaze of Michelangelo’s legendary frescoes, including The Last Judgment and The Creation of Adam, cardinals from around the globe will gather in silence and prayer to cast their votes in what is known as the papal conclave.
Temporary installations have been placed within the chapel to ensure the process is conducted in absolute secrecy and security. Special jamming devices are in place to prevent any electronic communication, and the iconic chimney has been mounted atop the roof—ready to emit the black or white smoke that signals whether a new pope has been chosen.
Cardinal Parolin, the cardinal bishop will preside over the conclave.
The conclave shall begin on 7th May, following the traditional period of mourning and prayer that follows the end of a papacy. With the Sistine Chapel now fully prepared, the Catholic faithful around the world await the moment when white smoke rises, signaling Habemus Papam—“We have a pope.”
