Ernakulam, March 27 – The Regional Conference of the Kerala Catholic Youth Movement (KCYM), Thykoodam-Cathedral unit was held on Sunday, March 16, at Kurikad Church, Ernakulam. The event was inaugurated by Prof. V. X. Sebastian, former president of KCYM Verapoly Archdiocese, and attended by various church and youth leaders.
Presided over by Rajeev Patric, president of KCYM Verapoly Archdiocese, the conference featured addresses by Fr. Raphael Shinoj Aranchery, director of KCYM Verapoly Archdiocese; Fr. Lijo Odathakkal, vicar of Kureekkad Parish; former KCYM Verapoly Archdiocese president Adv. Jijo K. S.; and several other officials from various KCYM units.
A key focus of the conference was the alarming rise in drug abuse on college campuses across Kerala. Speakers expressed grave concerns about the growing influence of drug networks and urged the state government to take decisive action to identify and eliminate sources of illicit substances.
During the conference, elections were held to select new office bearers for the Thykoodam-Cathedral Regional Committee. Supervised by Rajeev Patric, the election resulted in the selection of Alan Joseph as president, Jomon Antony as secretary, Amala Rose as vice president, and Alan Arun as youth councillor. KCYM Verapoly Archdiocese Treasurer Joison P. J. and several other unit office bearers were present during the event.
The Kerala Catholic Youth Movement (KCYM) has been actively involved in efforts aimed at social justice and youth empowerment in Kerala. The organisation has played a vital role in cultural, educational, and social initiatives in the state. Notably, in February 2025, KCYM spearheaded a postcard protest against the Kerala government’s decision to reduce minority scholarships by 50%, championing the rights of students struggling financially.
The regional conference of the Thykoodam-Cathedral unit of the Kerala Catholic Youth Movement (KCYM) reaffirmed its commitment to addressing pressing societal issues and mobilising youth for positive change.
