Pope Leo XIV: “Work for peace” and “seek solutions without weapons”

Vatican City, March 4, 2016: Pope Leo XIV offered a short message to journalists in Castel Gandolfo, outside the Villa Barberini residence, once again reiterating his call to “work for peace” and to “promote dialogue.”

“Pray for peace, work for peace, less hatred. Hatred in the world is constantly increasing.” With these words, Pope Leo XIV addressed a group of journalists gathered outside Villa Barberini in Castel Gandolfo, where he had spent his customary period of rest and work over the past day.

In the context of escalating attacks in the Middle East and rising fear and tension worldwide, the Pope renewed his appeal to pursue peace. He simultaneously encouraged everyone to “truly strive to promote dialogue” and to “seek solutions without weapons to resolve problems.”

His remarks echoed those made during last Sunday’s Angelus address.

On that occasion, referring to the attack by the United States and Israel on Iran, as well as Iran’s bombings in several parts of the Middle East, Leo XIV stated: “Stability and peace are not achieved through mutual threats, nor through the use of weapons, which sow destruction, suffering, and death, but only through reasonable, sincere, and responsible dialogue.”
