North East Youth Leaders Chart Common Vision at Regional Meet in Imphal

Imphal, March 4, 2026: Catholic youth leaders from across the North East gathered in Imphal for the North East Region Diocesan Youth Directors’ and Lady Youth Animators’ Meet 2026, inaugurated on February 25 at St. Paul’s Retreat Centre, Mantripukhri.

Organised by the Manipur Catholic Youth Organisation (MCYO), the three-day meeting sought to deepen coordination and foster a shared pastoral vision for youth ministry across the region.

In his inaugural address, Archbishop Linus Neli, Chairman of the North Eastern Regional Youth Commission, called on dioceses to strengthen collaboration in forming young leaders rooted in faith and responsive to social realities. Emphasising unity and discernment, he encouraged sustained inter-diocesan cooperation to meet the evolving needs of young people.

Fr. Cletus, recently appointed Regional Youth Director, reflected on the emerging challenges confronting youth ministry, urging leaders to respond with renewed zeal, pastoral creativity, and missionary commitment. Sr. Wangsuk Lyngdoh, Regional Lady Youth Animator, highlighted the importance of accompaniment and inclusivity, underscoring the vital contribution of young women in the life and mission of the Church.

The gathering brought together nine Diocesan Youth Directors and seven Lady Youth Animators representing various dioceses of the North East, along with Mr. Jonah Huimingam, President of Indian Catholic Youth Movement - North East (ICYM-NE).

Cultural expressions added vibrancy to the first day’s proceedings. A fusion dance by the Jawaharlal Nehru Dance Academy—presented for the first time at an MCYO event—was a highlight of the evening. Performances by Mr. Thaithuisin Gangmei, Ms. Diana Leivon, and Fr. Cletus further enriched the programme, reflecting the region’s youthful energy and cultural diversity.

Continuing until February 27, the meet serves as a platform for dialogue, pastoral planning, and renewed commitment to strengthening youth leadership across the North East region.
