Pope Leo to every parish: 'Take part in World Mission Sunday'

Vatican City, October 13, 2025: Pope Leo called on every Catholic parish worldwide to participate in World Mission Sunday on 19 October, highlighting its role in supporting missionaries. The annual event, themed “Missionaries of Hope among the peoples,” unites the Church in prayer and generosity. All parishes are encouraged to join through prayers and contributions. The initiative sustains missionary work globally, including pastoral, educational, and health programmes.

Pope’s Call to Action

In his video message, Pope Leo urged, “I urge every Catholic parish in the world to take part in World Mission Sunday.” Reflecting on his time as a missionary priest and Bishop in Peru, he stated, “I saw first-hand how the faith, the prayer and the generosity shown on World Mission Sunday can transform entire communities.”

He emphasized the impact of parish support, saying, “Your prayers, your support will help spread the Gospel, provide for pastoral and catechetical programs, help to build new churches, and care for the health and educational needs of our brothers and sisters in mission territories.”

Mission and Gratitude

Encouraging reflection on the baptismal call, the Pope said, “This October 19th, as we reflect together on our baptismal call to be 'missionaries of hope among the peoples,' let us commit ourselves anew to the sweet and joyful task of bringing Christ Jesus our Hope to the ends of the earth.” He concluded by thanking parishes for their support and imparting his Apostolic Blessing, reinforcing the global Church’s commitment to missionary efforts.
