Pune, January 28, 2026: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others were killed on Wednesday morning when the aircraft he was travelling in crashed near Baramati, in the Pune district of western India, officials and media reports said.
According to early reports, Mr. Pawar’s chartered plane went down while attempting to land in the Baramati area. Eyewitnesses and television footage showed smoke and wreckage at the crash site.
Local and national media, citing official alerts, stated that the Deputy Chief Minister and three other passengers on board lost their lives in the crash.
Rescue and emergency teams responded quickly, and authorities have launched investigations into the cause of the accident. Full details on the identities of all victims and the circumstances leading to the crash are still awaited.
