Mizoram Nun Wins National Award

Kerala, October 14, 2025: Sr. Rose Paite, MSMHC, from Mizoram, received the prestigious National Award from the Catholic Mental Health Ministry (CMHM) at the World Mental Health Day Conference in Kerala. Archbishop Thomas Tharayil presented the accolade, celebrating her remarkable work in promoting mental health and grassroots wellness. Distinguished church leaders and mental health experts from across India attended. The event recognised her 25-year dedication to empowering women, children, and marginalised communities in the North East.

A Momentous Award Ceremony

Archbishop Thomas Tharayil bestowed the Mrs. Janamma Thomas Muthoot Award, joined by Bishop Lumen Monteiro, Chairman of the CBCI Office for Healthcare; Bishop Alex Vadakumthala, Secretary General of the Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council and other celebrants.

Named after Mrs. Janamma Thomas Muthoot , whose compassionate service touched Karnataka, Kerala, and beyond, the award celebrates Sr. Rose’s embodiment of Christian love through her tireless work.

Championing Dignity and Wellbeing

Sr. Rose, a member of the Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians (MSMHC) from Mizoram has devoted over 25 years to uplifting women, children, and marginalised groups. Her pioneering efforts in preventing human trafficking, promoting safe migration, and advocating for domestic workers’ rights have transformed lives. By weaving mental health advocacy into community initiatives, she fosters holistic wellbeing, earning widespread admiration for her compassionate vision.

A Beacon for India’s North East

Sr. Rose’s recognition shines as an inspiration, particularly for the North East, encouraging communities to integrate mental health and wellness into daily life. Her work, rooted in faith and service, sets a powerful example for social workers and ministers across India, amplifying the Church’s mission to uphold human dignity.
