Liturgical Formation Seminar Enriches Parishioners’ Participation in Church Ministries in Udupi

Udupi, May 13, 2026: In a renewed effort to deepen the faithful’s engagement in the Church’s liturgical life, a formation seminar was organised at the Our Lady of Sorrows Church Udupi, drawing a large gathering of parishioners committed to various ministries.

The initiative, led by the parish Liturgy Commission, brought together over 200 participants, including lectors, choir members, and lay faithful seeking a more meaningful understanding of their role in the celebration of the sacred mysteries. The seminar created a space for reflection, formation, and practical guidance, centred on fostering active and conscious participation in the liturgy.

The resource person for the programme was Fr. Rudolph Pinto, Executive Secretary of the Commission for Liturgy of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI). In his sessions, he offered a comprehensive explanation of the various liturgical ministries in the Church, outlining their theological foundations, classifications, and distinct roles within the Eucharistic celebration.

Particular emphasis was placed on the ministries of lectors and liturgical music. Participants were guided on the spiritual depth, responsibility, and preparation required to serve effectively in these roles, highlighting that liturgy is not merely ritual performance but a lived encounter with Christ.

Coordinated by Fr. Leo Praveen D’Souza, the seminar was widely appreciated for its clarity and pastoral relevance. Attendees expressed that the formation helped renew their commitment to serving the Church with greater devotion and understanding.

The programme stood as a reminder that well-formed liturgical ministries contribute significantly to the beauty and dignity of worship, enabling the faithful to experience the liturgy as a source of spiritual nourishment and communal unity.
