Laity Day Celebrated with Faith and Fellowship at St. Francis Assisi Church, Tallur

Tallur, January 22, 2026: Laity Day was celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm at St. Francis Assisi Church, Tallur, as parishioners gathered in large numbers to reflect on the role of the laity in the life and mission of the Church.

The celebration began with the Holy Mass in the morning, presided over by Fr. Herald D’Souza, Professor at Jeppu Seminary, Mangalore, as the main celebrant. The Mass was concelebrated by the Parish Priest, Fr. Edwin D’Souza. Members of the Laity Commission actively assisted in the liturgical services.

Following the Eucharistic celebration, refreshments were served to the faithful. The programme then continued in the church hall, where Fr. Herald D’Souza and Fr. Edwin D’Souza were present as chief guests. Fr. Edwin D’Souza welcomed the gathering and delivered the introductory address.

In his message, Fr. Herald D’Souza highlighted the vital mission of the laity, urging them to proclaim the Good News through their good deeds. He encouraged lay faithful to be the light and flavour of the Church, the family, the ward and society at large, and to remain committed to serving people in all walks of life. He further stressed that active involvement in the Laity Commission helps strengthen relationships within families, wards and the wider community.

A key moment of the celebration was the felicitation of the newly elected Parish Pastoral Council members for the 2026–2028 term. They were honoured with flower saplings, symbolising growth, responsibility and service within the parish community.

The programme was attended by the Vice-President and Secretary of the Parish Council, Commission Coordinators and Council Members, reflecting strong participation and support from parish leadership. The event was compered by Mr. Anil D’Silva, Convener of the Laity Commission, who ensured the smooth conduct of the programme.

The Laity Day celebration concluded on a joyful note, reaffirming the call of the laity to live their faith actively and to contribute meaningfully to the life of the Church and society.
