Kurnool Diocese Holds Prayer Service for World Peace

Kurnool, August 23, 2025: Responding to the call of Pope Leo for a special day of fasting and prayer for world peace, the Diocese of Kurnool came together in devotion on Friday, 22 August 2025. Bishop Dr. Johannes Gorantla, OCD, urged all clergy, religious and laity to observe the day with fasting and prayer in every parish, religious house and adoration chapel.

THE SOUL OF THE LITURGY: MUSIC IN THE SERVICE OF THE SACRED

An exclusive prayer service was organised at Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral, Kurnool. The programme began with the recitation of the Holy Rosary and intercessions offered to the Lord through the Blessed Virgin Mary. This was followed by Eucharistic Adoration led by the Cathedral parish priest, Fr. K. Pratap Reddy, who explained the urgent need for prayer in today’s troubled world.

Fr. Reddy reminded the faithful that peace is rapidly disappearing at every level—within families, communities, societies and nations. He pointed out that conflicts and divisions are on the rise, selfishness has overtaken human values, and violence is claiming countless lives. “In such a situation,” he emphasised, “true peace can only come from our compassionate and merciful Lord Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, who became man to save humanity.”

Marking the Feast of Mary, Queen of Heaven, special prayers were offered seeking the intercession of the Blessed Mother for peace across the globe.

The service concluded with heartfelt adoration within the Cathedral campus, led by Vicar General Fr. David Arulappa. Diocesan priests, religious sisters and parishioners joined together in prayerful solidarity, invoking Christ’s peace for families, communities and nations worldwide.
