Kurnool, Andra Pradesh, April 11, 2026 — At a time when many young people stand at a crossroads after their board examinations, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kurnool offered both direction and hope through a three-day Career Guidance Programme held from April 9 to 11 at the Jeevasudha Pastoral Centre.
Centred on the theme “Discover Your Talents – Shape Your Future,” the initiative brought together 480 students who had completed their 10th standard and Intermediate, representing 66 parishes across five deaneries in Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, and Sri Sathya Sai districts. The gathering combined prayer, personal testimony, and professional insight, creating a space where faith and future aspirations met.
The programme opened with a Rosary led by Fr. Mesa Prasanna and religious sisters, setting a reflective tone. Inaugurating the event, Bp Johannes Gorantla, OCD, of Kurnool diocese, addressed the anxieties often faced by students at this stage of life. Drawing from his own experience, he encouraged them to anchor their future on four pillars—destination, determination, discipline, and destiny—while seeking clarity in their choices.
As the sessions unfolded, the focus shifted from inspiration to practical guidance. On the second day, the Bishop reminded students that even a single idea, received with openness, can change the course of one’s life. His message was echoed in the testimonies and inputs of resource persons who spoke candidly about both struggle and success.
Among them was Mr. Prashanth, a career counsellor from Hyderabad, who shared his journey from academic failure to professional stability, highlighting the role of perseverance, discipline, and prayer. Students were then introduced to a range of academic pathways. Ms. Deepthi outlined options available after the 10th standard, including Polytechnic and Diploma courses, while Mr. Gnana Joseph mapped out possibilities after Intermediate, pointing to careers in medicine, engineering, and aeronautics.
The horizon widened further with Dr. Suhashini’s presentation on opportunities in the healthcare sector, urging students to make informed and responsible decisions. Speaking on the theme “Change,” Mr. Rajashekar invited participants to cultivate clarity, humility, and a positive outlook as they navigate an increasingly complex world.
A session on Artificial Intelligence drew particular interest, as students were introduced to emerging tools such as ChatGPT and Google Gemini, alongside a caution about misinformation and the ethical use of digital platforms. The day concluded on an engaging note with a Bible Quiz conducted by the Amruthavani and RVA Team, with Kurnool Deanery securing first place.
The final day turned inward, as priests and religious sisters shared their vocation stories, gently inviting students to consider not only careers but also calling. Addressing the reality of students discontinuing education due to financial hardship, Bishop Gorantla assured continued support through diocesan institutions and assistance initiatives.
The programme concluded with an interactive session, prize distribution, and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. In his closing message, the Bishop encouraged students to move forward with faith and determination, choosing paths that reflect both their talents and their values.
The JMJ, CMC, and CTC congregations provided accommodation for the girls, while the boys were accommodated at the Jeevasudha Pastoral Centre in Kurnool.
More than a series of sessions, the three-day gathering emerged as a moment of accompaniment—helping young people not only to plan their future, but to discern it with confidence and trust.
