Bengaluru, March 20, 2026: The Karnataka Regional Youth Commission (KRYC) convened its 30th Council and Core Team elections on March 15 at Subodhana, bringing together Catholic youth leaders from across the state for a day marked by reflection, collaboration, and leadership transition.
The gathering drew youth representatives, directors, and animators from 12 dioceses, alongside members of prominent Catholic youth movements such as Jesus Youth, All India Catholic University Federation, Don Bosco Youth, MIJARC, and YU4C. The wide participation underscored the vibrancy and unity of youth ministry within the Church in Karnataka.
The Council opened with an inaugural session attended by Fr. Anil Prasad, Sunil Jose, Fr. Ashwin Cardozo, Sr. Molly Illikal, and Vileena Gonsalves. In their addresses, the speakers encouraged young people to take on greater responsibility in building both the Church and society.
A significant portion of the Council was dedicated to the presentation of annual reports for 2025–2026 by diocesan youth commissions and movements. The session provided a platform for shared learning, evaluation, and the strengthening of collaboration across dioceses. The Council was formally declared open by Fr. Ashwin Cardozo.
The highlight of the gathering was the election of the new KRYC Core Team for the 2026–2028 term. Sheryl Agnes was elected as the new Coordinator, succeeding Vileena Gonsalves, who formally handed over responsibilities to the incoming team.
The Council also acknowledged the dedicated service of Sr. Molly Illikal, who completed her term as Regional Youth Lady Animator (2023–2026). Sr. Lenita Lobo was welcomed and felicitated as she assumed the role.
The proceedings included a Eucharistic celebration, during which the newly elected Core Team took their oath of office, reaffirming their commitment to serve the youth of the Church with dedication and faith.
The 30th Council of the KRYC concluded on a note of renewed commitment, reflecting a strong sense of unity among Catholic youth leaders and a shared resolve to deepen engagement and carry forward the mission of the Church among young people in Karnataka.
