Kalaburagi, Karnataka, June 14 2026: A strong message against child labour and in favour of children's rights echoed across Kalaburagi as government authorities, legal institutions, educational establishments and social organisations joined hands to observe the World Day Against Child Labour through a district-level awareness programme.
The initiative was jointly organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), District Administration, Zilla Panchayath and Labour Department, in collaboration with St. Mary's PU College and School, Don Bosco PYaR and the Margadarshi Society.
The observance commenced with an awareness rally led by students, teachers and government officials, who marched through the city carrying placards and spreading awareness about the harmful effects of child labour. A formal programme followed, featuring the unveiling of an awareness poster and the administration of a pledge against child labour. The pledge was led by Sri Srinivas Navale, Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, who encouraged participants to remain vigilant and committed to safeguarding children's welfare.
Adding a creative dimension to the campaign, school students presented a thought-provoking skit depicting the harsh realities and long-term consequences of child labour. The performance drew attention to the importance of education and the collective responsibility of society in protecting vulnerable children.
Addressing the gathering, social worker Mr. Anand Raj underscored the need for concerted action to eradicate child labour. He stressed that children belong in classrooms rather than workplaces and called upon families, communities and institutions to work together in ensuring a brighter future for every child.
Among those present were Fr. Kuriakose, Fr. Joseph Praveen, officials from the Labour Department and representatives of the District Administration, who reaffirmed their commitment to child protection and social justice.
The programme concluded with a community meal, symbolising solidarity and shared responsibility in building a child-friendly and child-labour-free Kalaburagi. The observance served as a reminder that the protection of children's rights remains a vital mission requiring the continued cooperation of government agencies, civil society and faith-based organisations.
