Jharkhand Clergy Embrace Synodal Pastoral Life

Ranchi, February 8, 2025 – Junior clergy from Jharkhand have pledged to follow a synodal path, embracing transformation in their personal, spiritual, and pastoral lives. The Conference of Diocesan Priests of India (CDPI) in the Jharkhand region organized a three-day ongoing formation program from February 6 to 8 at the Social Development Center, Ranchi.

Most Rev. Vincent Aind, Archbishop of Ranchi, inaugurated the program and emphasized that a parish priest’s pastoral journey must integrate personal, spiritual, and community dimensions. Encouraging clergy to adopt a synodal model, he stressed the importance of vision, facing challenges, and embracing renewal. Most Rev. Binay Kandulna, Bishop of Khunti and regional Chairman of the CCBI Commission for VSCR, celebrated the Holy Mass, underscoring the expectations of the Bishops and the necessity of a vibrant, participatory Church.

Fr. Charles Leon, executive secretary of the CCBI Commission for VSCR, guided the clergy through the formation process using the “Triple C” method—Context, Challenges, and Concretization—applied to their personal, spiritual, pastoral, and communitarian lives. Professors from St. Albert’s College led sessions on liturgy, parish administration, the concept of “pilgrims of hope,” and synodality in light of recent Church documents. Fr. Roy Lazar, CDPI national president, encouraged priests to strengthen CDPI structures, while Fr. Charles Leon introduced key CCBI initiatives such as the CCBI Pastoral Plan 2033, Communio, and Catholic Connect.

Regional CDPI office bearers organised the program, which saw the participation of 78 priests from eight dioceses. The gathering concluded with a discerned action plan to build a dynamic, mission-driven Church in Jharkhand.
