Jaipur Diocese Marks World Suicide Prevention Day With Youth Awareness Programme

Jaipur, September 11, 2026: The Catholic Mental Health Ministry (CMHM) of the Jaipur Diocese marked World Suicide Prevention Day with an awareness programme at Sophia Senior Secondary School, Lalarpura, on September 10, focusing on the emotional and mental health challenges confronting young people.

Held under the global theme “Changing the Narrative on Suicide,” the programme sought to encourage open conversations about mental health, reduce stigma and promote a culture of compassion, support and early intervention among students.

A special assembly drew attention to issues such as academic stress, bullying, peer pressure and loneliness, which can significantly affect young people's emotional well-being. School Counsellor Sapna Prateek urged students not to allow temporary difficulties to define their lives and highlighted four practical steps in supporting someone facing emotional distress: Notice, Support, Connect and Move Forward Together.

CMHM Diocesan Secretary and School Principal Sr Josita Abraham, MSA, stressed the value and dignity of every human life. She encouraged students to face challenges with courage and to remain attentive to the struggles of their peers.

The awareness campaign also featured a poster-making activity, giving students an opportunity to express messages of hope, resilience and solidarity. Among the slogans displayed were “Speak Up Louder Than Stigma,” “Your Story Matters,” “You Are Worthy,” and “It’s Okay Not to Be Okay.”

The programme emphasised that reaching out for help is an act of strength and that people experiencing emotional distress need not face their struggles alone.

Sophia Senior Secondary School, Lalarpura, regularly conducts initiatives aimed at promoting the mental health and overall well-being of its students, teachers and parents.
