When asked about the secret behind his success, Deon said simply, “Practice, practice, and practice.” He emphasized the importance of learning from other athletes to improve. Reflecting on his inspirations, he revealed, “My dad, Sunny Mathew, is a huge inspiration for me because he himself was a state-level badminton player.” Deon also credited his family’s unwavering support, especially his mother and his sister Larissa for being integral to his sports journey.

Beyond athletics, Deon is a man of many talents. He enjoys sketching, singing, and playing various instruments, including the flute, guitar, violin, and piano. His diverse interests reflect his well-rounded personality and zest for life.

Looking ahead, Deon is preparing for the Indian Grand Prix 2 National Games, scheduled for May 17 in Trivandrum, Kerala, where he will represent Uttarakhand. He also plans to compete in the 64th National Inter State Senior Athletics Championships in Chennai from August 20 to 24, 2025.
