Aizawl, Mizoram , August 6, 2025 — The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) is mourning the untimely passing of Alan Lalrinawma, a beloved youth leader from Mizoram and a member of the ICYM National Executive Committee (NEXCO), who died on August 5, 2025, at the age of 31.
Born on August 22, 1993, in Aizawl, Mizoram, Alan was known for his unwavering dedication, boundless creativity, and compassionate leadership. He served as the Regional Youth Secretary of ICYM Northeast from 2022 to 2024 and was the current male representative of the Northeast region in NEXCO, under the CCBI National Youth Commission. He also served as Youth Advisor to ICYM Northeast and NERYC.
According to fellow NEXCO member Hulang Magdalene Anal, Alan’s journey of service began with the Young Catholic Students (YCS) movement in the Diocese of Aizawl. From a parish-level volunteer, he grew into a dynamic leader—later becoming General Secretary and then Vice-President of the Diocesan Catholic Thalai Pawl (DCTP). His passion, talent, and sincerity made him a beloved figure among young people not only in Mizoram but across the region and the nation.
More than just a leader, Alan was also a gifted professional choreographer. He founded the Mizo Dance Camp (MDC) in Aizawl and was a prominent figure in the state—performing, anchoring, judging, and choreographing beauty pageants and prestigious events throughout Mizoram. Despite his many accomplishments, he remained deeply rooted in humility and faith. He was also actively involved in the renowned youth social movement, the Young Mizos Association (YMA).
Those who worked closely with him, including Hulang, recall his dedication to unity and youth empowerment. Together with others in the region, Alan travelled across all 15 dioceses of Northeast India, bringing youth under the banner of ICYM Northeast and NERYC. He helped conduct meetings, engage with local leaders, and strengthen diocesan youth structures. One of his lasting contributions was the initiation and growth of DEXCOs (Diocesan Executive Committee) meetings and visits, which have become a vibrant part of youth ministry in the region.
Alan had been battling intestinal tuberculosis and pneumonia since August 2024. Though he experienced periods of recovery, his health suddenly declined, leading to his passing—a loss that has left a deep void in the hearts of many.
His legacy is one of love, service, creativity, and faith. Alan Lalrinawma’s life continues to inspire countless young people across the Northeast and beyond.
