Gwalior, March 31, 2026: Marking the beginning of Holy Week with a profound moment of reflection, the Diocese of Gwalior hosted a special screening of The Passion of the Christ, drawing clergy and laity into a shared meditation on the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
The screening, organised by Gwalior Dhwani Media, was held at Kailash Cineplex and witnessed an impressive turnout of priests, pastors, religious sisters, and faithful from various Christian denominations. The presence of Bishop Joseph Thykkattil added to the solemn tone of the gathering, which transcended a typical film viewing to become a deeply spiritual experience.
Nearly all 340 seats in the theatre were filled, reflecting a strong desire among the faithful to engage meaningfully with the spiritual significance of Holy Week. The initiative resonated widely, offering participants an opportunity to contemplate the Passion in a more immersive and reflective manner.
The event was spearheaded by Fr. Sanu Alunkal, Director of Gwalior Dhwani Media and Pilgrimages, with the support of Advocate Raju Francis and a dedicated team of volunteers. Their coordinated efforts ensured a smooth and prayerful atmosphere throughout the programme.
Known for its stark and realistic depiction of the final hours of Christ, the film invited viewers into a deeper encounter with themes of suffering, redemption, and unconditional love. For many attendees, the screening became a moment of personal spiritual renewal, prompting introspection on the meaning of Christ’s Passion in their daily lives.
The programme was conducted with the cooperation of local authorities, including the district administration and police, ensuring order and security.
Through this faith-based initiative, the Diocese of Gwalior highlighted the enduring relevance of Christ’s Passion, encouraging the faithful to journey through Holy Week with renewed devotion and a deeper awareness of its call to sacrificial love.
