Gulbarga Diocese Launches Think Tank to Foster Faith, Leadership, and Collaboration

Kalaburagi, Karnataka, October 12, 2025 — The Diocese of Gulbarga has taken a visionary step towards strengthening its mission and administration with the inauguration of a new Think Tank Unit at the Sugyan Pastoral Centre, Kalaburagi. The initiative aims to bring together professionals, experts, and learners to promote collaborative thinking and lay participation in the Church’s pastoral and developmental journey.

The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Fr. Santhosh Bapu, setting the tone for a day dedicated to reflection and innovation in Church leadership. Bishop Robert Miranda, in his presidential message, emphasised the value of collective discernment and active involvement of the laity in diocesan growth. He underlined that the Church’s mission flourishes when clergy and laity work hand in hand with shared purpose and vision.

Following the Bishop’s address, the day’s speakers were introduced — Fr. Sudeep Paul, Director of Sandesha Trust, Mangalore, and Mr. Roy Castelino, PRO of the Diocese of Mangalore and President of the Think Tank.

In his keynote session, Fr. Sudeep Paul elaborated on the role and significance of the Think Tank within the diocesan framework. He noted that such a platform serves as a space for professionals and learners alike to contribute ideas and strategies for the holistic growth of the Church, integrating pastoral, educational, and social dimensions.

Mr. Roy Castelino, in his insightful presentation, spoke on the immediate relevance of forming a Think Tank in the contemporary Church. He highlighted the need for sound thinking and formation in areas such as faith, law, health, and youth engagement. He also urged the faithful to work collaboratively to promote peace, justice, and responsible citizenship. Castelino further stressed the importance of empowering the laity and ensuring quality education for children as a foundation for nurturing responsible future leaders.

Around thirty participants from various parts of the diocese took part in the inaugural programme. After the main sessions, they were divided into four focus groups for discussion on pastoral priorities, sharing practical recommendations to strengthen diocesan initiatives. Each group presented its reflections, generating constructive proposals that will guide the future course of the Think Tank.

A highlight of the event was the formal inauguration of the Think Tank Unit, followed by the election of its office bearers:

  • President: Mr. Niel Santhosh (Gulbarga)
  • Vice President: Mr. Peter (Bijapur)
  • Secretary: Mrs. Anitha (Gulbarga)
  • Joint Secretary: Mr. Praveen Paul (Bidar)

The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks, affirming the collective commitment to journey together in faith, reflection, and action. The newly formed Think Tank is expected to become a driving force for leadership development and pastoral innovation within the Diocese of Gulbarga, embodying the Church’s mission of unity, service, and spiritual renewal.
