20 October, 2026: The Forum of Religious for Justice and Peace (FORUM), representing members from 14 states and 27 religious congregations, has called for renewed efforts to uphold justice, peace, human dignity and solidarity amid growing social, political and ecological challenges in India.
In a statement unanimously adopted at its XIX National Convention, held at Ishvani Kendra, Pune, from 10 to 12 October 2026, the Forum expressed concern over systemic injustice, corruption, communal violence, discrimination, religious fundamentalism and threats to the country’s secular and democratic fabric. The convention was held on the theme, “Fostering Justice, Peace and Solidarity in Today’s Context.”
The Forum also highlighted concerns over the alleged disenfranchisement of legitimate citizens through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, ecological injustice, crony capitalism and the denial of constitutional rights. It urged the Church to address internal challenges such as clericalism, hierarchicalism and patriarchy.
Expressing solidarity with students, young people and civil society organisations campaigning for electoral reforms, the participants organised a symbolic march during the convention. They also deliberated on the impact of digitalisation and artificial intelligence on society.
The Forum reaffirmed its commitment to accompanying marginalised communities, promoting human rights, protecting the environment and strengthening democratic processes through collaboration with religious congregations, civil society organisations, young people and grassroots movements.
Drawing inspiration from the biblical call, “Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream,” the statement urged religious communities to build bridges across divisions, promote friendship over hatred and stand in solidarity with those who suffer.
The Forum concluded with a renewed commitment to building an India where every person lives with dignity, every community enjoys freedom from fear, diversity is celebrated, and justice and peace prevail.
